Easy Way to Clean Registry

Registry is like a database which stores complex set of files, user preferences and settings for programs, operating system configuration, hardware devices and more. The registry is a kind of DNA for Windows computers as it keeps record of every task performed on the system like opening a file or document, installing and uninstalling applications, visiting a website, etc. Also, Windows will never remove registry entries even if a program is uninstalled as most of the uninstallers won’t be able to remove their own registry keys.

So, the registry gets loaded with outdated entries which can cause error messages and slowdown computer speed and performance. Therefore, it is very much important to clean registry in order to boost system speed, free storage space, increase startup time, etc.

Usually, in Windows system there will be seven predefined keys and they are:

·         HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG

·         HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT

·         HKEY_PERFORMANCE_DATA

·         HKEY_CURRENT_USER

·         HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

·         HKEY_USERS

·         HKEY_DYN_DATA

Now, let’s see how to delete registry files on Windows computer. First, click on “Start” and then type “Run” in search box. Run dialog ox appears.

Now, type “regedit” in the text box, and then click on “OK” button.

In Registry Editor, execute the following commands in order to delete xyz registry file: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Program

Add hyphen symbol before the registry key in the .reg file:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ Program \xyz

The below mentioned instance depicts how to delete .reg file.

[ -HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Program\xyz ]

Similarly, you can delete all other registry files. Though, cleaning registry improves system’s speed and performance and also it will free up the disk space, but, at times if you follow wrong procedure to clean registry, then it negatively impacts on operating system and other installed applications.
